Difference: Slides and Templates
Slides and templates are both created with the Content Designer, but they serve different purposes.
Slides
Section titled “Slides”A slide is a single piece of designed content. Key characteristics:
- Once created, a slide can only be used as-is
- To reuse a layout with different content, you need to duplicate the slide and edit the copy
- All viewneo users with the appropriate permissions can create slides
- viewneo provides ready-made slides in the Free Content folder
Templates
Section titled “Templates”A template is a reusable design with placeholders for variable content. Key characteristics:
- Templates allow you to define fixed elements (logo, background, layout) and editable areas (text, images)
- From one template, you can generate multiple slides — each with different content
- When the main template is updated (e.g., a new logo), the changes are automatically applied to all slides generated from it
When to Use What
Section titled “When to Use What”| Use Case | Slide | Template |
|---|---|---|
| One-off content with a unique design | ✅ | — |
| Reusable layout with changing content | — | ✅ |
| Consistent branding across locations | — | ✅ |
| Quick content from Free Content folder | ✅ | — |
| Centralized design with local customization | — | ✅ |
Practical Example
Section titled “Practical Example”A company headquarters creates a template with fixed branding elements (logo, colors, layout) and editable text placeholders. Each branch location then generates its own slides from this template with location-specific information — ensuring consistent design across all locations while allowing local customization.
