Butler Events

Butler events let you automate the behavior of your paired Zigbee actuators. You can trigger actions based on schedules, content events or manual commands – letting your digital signage installation interact with the physical environment.

Overview

Section titled “Overview”

An event consists of:

  • Trigger – What causes the action (a time, a content change, a manual command, etc.).
  • Action – What should happen (turn on a light, switch an outlet, activate a motor, etc.).
  • Target – Which paired actuator should perform the action.

Create an Event

  1. Log in to the viewneo CMS at cms.viewneo.com.
  2. Navigate to Devices and select your Butler.
  3. Open the Events tab.
  4. Click Add Event to create a new automation rule.

Configure the Trigger

Select the trigger type for your event:

Trigger typeDescription
ScheduleTriggers at a specific time or on a recurring schedule (daily, weekly, etc.).
Content EventTriggers when a specific slide, playlist or content item starts or stops playing.
ManualTriggers on demand via the CMS dashboard.

Configure the Action

Define what should happen when the trigger fires:

  • Turn On / Turn Off – Switch an outlet or relay.
  • Toggle – Switch the device’s current state (on becomes off, off becomes on).
  • Set Brightness – Adjust the brightness of a dimmable light (if supported).
  • Set Color – Change the color of a smart bulb (if supported).

Select the Target

Choose which paired actuator should receive the command. You can select a single device or multiple devices if the same action should be applied to several actuators at once.

Save the Event

Review your configuration and click Save. The event becomes active immediately.

Example: Scheduled Lighting

A common use case is turning on shelf lighting during business hours:

  1. Trigger: Schedule – Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.
  2. Action: Turn On.
  3. Target: “Shelf lighting - storefront”.
  4. Create a second event with Trigger: Schedule – Monday to Friday, 8:00 p.m., Action: Turn Off, same target.

Example: Content-Synchronized Lighting

Highlight a product when its promotional content appears on the screen:

  1. Trigger: Content Event – When the “Summer sale” slide is played.
  2. Action: Turn On (or set the color to a warm tone).
  3. Target: “Spotlight - product display A”.
  4. Create a second event with the same content trigger, set to “stops playing”, and Action: Turn Off.

Manage Events

Edit an Event

Section titled “Edit an Event”
  1. Navigate to the Events tab in your Butler settings.
  2. Click the event you want to change.
  3. Update the trigger, action or target as needed.
  4. Click Save.

Disable an Event

You can temporarily disable an event without deleting it:

  1. Open the event details.
  2. Switch the Active toggle off.
  3. The event remains in your list but will not trigger until it is re-enabled.

Delete an Event

  1. Open the event details.
  2. Click Delete Event.
  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted.
