Pair Zigbee Devices
After connecting and activating your Butler, you can pair Zigbee-compatible actuators such as lights, power outlets, and motors. This page explains the pairing process step by step.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- The Butler is connected to your network and assigned in the CMS. See Activate Butler.
- You have one or more Zigbee-compatible actuators ready.
- The actuators are within radio range of the Butler (typically 10—30 meters indoors).
Step 1: Put the Actuator in Pairing Mode
Section titled “Step 1: Put the Actuator in Pairing Mode”Each Zigbee actuator has a specific method to enter pairing mode. This varies by manufacturer and device type. Common methods include:
- Smart plugs / outlets — Press and hold the button on the device for 5—10 seconds until the LED blinks rapidly.
- Smart bulbs — Power cycle the bulb (turn off and on) several times in quick succession (typically 5 times).
- Motors / relays — Use the reset button or follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 2: Start Pairing in the CMS
Section titled “Step 2: Start Pairing in the CMS”- Log in to the viewneo CMS at cms.viewneo.com.
- Navigate to Devices and select your Butler.
- Open the Butler Settings panel.
- Click Add Device to start the pairing scan.
- The Butler will search for nearby Zigbee devices in pairing mode.
- Once the actuator is found, it will appear in the list of discovered devices.
- Select the device and confirm the pairing.
Step 3: Name and Configure the Actuator
Section titled “Step 3: Name and Configure the Actuator”After successful pairing:
- Give the actuator a descriptive name (e.g., “Shelf Light Left”, “Outlet Display 1”).
- Optionally assign it to a category or group for easier management.
- Save the configuration.
The actuator is now paired with the Butler and can be controlled from the CMS.
Pairing Tips
Section titled “Pairing Tips”- Proximity — During pairing, place the actuator as close to the Butler as possible. You can move it to its final location after pairing is complete.
- One at a time — Pair actuators one at a time to avoid confusion. Only put one device into pairing mode at a time.
- Interference — Other Zigbee networks or WiFi routers on the 2.4 GHz band may cause interference. If pairing fails, try moving the Butler or actuator away from potential sources of interference.
- Timeout — The pairing scan has a timeout. If the actuator is not detected, cancel and retry. Make sure the actuator is still in pairing mode.
Supported Device Types
Section titled “Supported Device Types”The Butler supports a wide range of Zigbee-compatible devices, including:
| Device Type | Examples | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Plugs / Outlets | Power on/off for displays, lights, appliances | Scheduled power control |
| Smart Bulbs | Dimmable and color-changing lights | Ambient lighting, attention effects |
| Relay Modules | Inline switches for existing installations | Motorized screens, lifts |
| Sensors | Motion, temperature, door/window | Event triggers |
Next Steps
Section titled “Next Steps”- Manage Devices — View, rename, or remove paired devices.
- Butler Events — Create automated actions for your paired actuators.
