RFID Tags

RFID tags are small adhesive labels attached to your products. Each tag has a unique ID that the RFID reader detects and that the viewneo CMS uses to trigger the correct content on screen.

  • Each tag contains a unique identifier (tag ID).
  • Tags are passive — they do not require batteries or power.
  • Tags are thin and lightweight, suitable for attaching to most products.
  • The read range is typically 3—5 cm from the RFID reader.
  1. Attach the RFID tag to the bottom of the product (the side that faces the shelf surface).
  2. The tag should be positioned so that it sits directly above the RFID reader when the product is on the shelf.
  3. Use the adhesive backing to stick the tag firmly to the product.
  • Consistent positioning — Attach the tag in the same relative position on every product for predictable detection.
  • Avoid metal surfaces — Do not attach the tag directly to a metal surface. Metal blocks the RFID signal. If the product is metallic, use a spacer (foam pad or plastic layer) between the product and the tag.
  • Protect the tag — If the product will be handled frequently, cover the tag with a clear protective label or tape to prevent it from peeling off.

Each RFID tag has a unique ID printed on it or encoded in it. You will need these IDs to assign content in the CMS.

  1. When attaching tags, note the tag ID for each product.
  2. Create a mapping list (e.g., a spreadsheet) that records which tag ID belongs to which product.

Once the tags are attached and the RFID hardware is set up, assign content to each tag:

  1. Log in to the viewneo CMS at cms.viewneo.com.
  2. Navigate to the RFID Plugin section.
  3. Click Add Tag or open the tag management interface.
  4. Enter the tag ID for the first product.
  5. Assign the content that should be displayed when this tag is lifted. This can be:
    • A specific slide or media file (image, video).
    • A playlist that plays while the product is off the shelf.
    • A template with dynamic product information.
  6. Optionally, assign default content that plays when the product is placed back on the shelf.
  7. Repeat for each product/tag.
  1. Assign the RFID configuration to the appropriate player.
  2. Click Save.

After configuring tags in the CMS:

  1. Place a tagged product on the shelf (above the reader).
  2. Lift the product and observe the screen — the assigned content should appear.
  3. Place the product back — the screen should return to the default content.
  4. Repeat for each tagged product to verify all assignments.

If the content does not change when lifting a product:

  • Verify the tag ID in the CMS matches the physical tag.
  • Check that the RFID reader is detecting the tag (see RFID Sensors).
  • Ensure the content is correctly assigned and published to the player.
  • RFID Events — Set up advanced event triggers beyond simple content switching.
  • RFID Bulk Events — Configure rules for many tags at once.
