Example: Ad Block
A common use case for nested playlists is inserting a block of advertisements into a main content playlist. This approach makes it easy to manage ads separately and reuse them across multiple playlists.
Why Use an Ad Block Playlist?
Section titled “Why Use an Ad Block Playlist?”- Central management — Update ads in one place, and the changes automatically apply everywhere the ad block is used
- Reuse — The same ad block can be nested in many different playlists
- Controlled playback — Configure how many ads play each time the block appears
Step 1: Create the Ad Block Playlist
Section titled “Step 1: Create the Ad Block Playlist”- Create a new playlist (e.g., “Ad Block”)
- Fill it with your advertising content (images, videos, slides)
Step 2: Nest it in Your Main Playlist
Section titled “Step 2: Nest it in Your Main Playlist”- Edit your main content playlist
- Drag the “Ad Block” playlist into the main playlist at the desired position
- Save the main playlist
Step 3: Configure Playback Behavior
Section titled “Step 3: Configure Playback Behavior”By default, the entire ad block plays through every time it is reached. To limit the number of ads shown per cycle:
- Click on the nested ad block in the main playlist
- Open the Behavior tab
- Set the number of items to play per cycle (e.g., 2)
With this setting, only 2 ads play each time the ad block is reached. The next time, the following 2 ads play, and so on — cycling through all ads over time.
Automatic Updates
Section titled “Automatic Updates”When you change content in the ad block playlist, the update is automatically applied to all playlists that contain the ad block. There is no need to update each playlist individually.
